Lisa Drucker, a freelance writer and editor, had traditionally published a book in the past but didn’t feel that the publisher offered enough support. So, she turned to self-publishing looking for more editorial control. “Because it’s self-publishing, the writer doesn’t have to do anything they don’t want to do,” says Drucker.
Drucker knew firsthand how challenging the publishing process can be having worked as an editor in the industry for years. Much to her delight, the iUniverse production team made it a fun and enjoyable process with their tremendous support and creation of a sleek cover and professional interior design.
Plus, the editorial process was smooth. “The Editorial Evaluation was extremely helpful,” says Drucker. “Even though there weren’t major revisions, it was lot better than if I had just tried to do it on my own. And, it also gave me the opportunity to be considered for Rising Star.”
Working with iUniverse, Drucker published Arise, O Phoenix, a novel about how the tragedy of 9/11 brought two lovers back together. The book received the Rising Star designation and was the 100,000th e-book published by Author Solutions, parent company of iUniverse.
Lisa Drucker, who has traditionally published a book before, explains why she chose iUniverse this time around.
"When I opened the carton and took out the first printed book, it was just thrilling." – Lisa Drucker
Arise, O Phoenix was Drucker's first novel, although writing screenplays and short stories was always a passion. "Getting this book published and holding the printed copy was incredible, because it's a really important project that's near and dear to my heart because of the subject matter."
In a six-part series on the iUniverse blog, Drucker takes readers on an insightful ride as she shares her wisdom and passion with fellow authors and aspiring writers. Drucker earned a bachelor's degree in classics from Vassar College, and a master's degree in communications and media studies from The New School. She has written The Princess-in-Training Manual under the pseudonym Jacqueline de Soignée and ASVAB Flash Cards. She currently resides in South Florida. Arise, O Phoenix, is a story of love's indomitable power and the triumph of the human spirit that both rise from the ashes of 9/11 to remind us all of the only things that truly matter in life.
