About the Author
Rebecca Henderson spent over fifteen years in IT as an accomplished systems programmer in Seattle, Washington, and Irvine, California.
After losing most of her sight, her entire life—from career to hobbies—changed. She became depressed for about ten minutes and then began to put her time to good use.
She started massage school, but injuries stemming from her vision loss prevented taking on a career as a masseuse, and she took a new direction in the physical healing arts and ultimately earned credentials as a holistic health practitioner from the California College of Physical Arts. She completed a teaching internship, delivering both core curriculum and continuing education classes and is a nationally certified personal fitness trainer and group fitness trainer and a certified yoga instructor.
She has worked as a volunteer at the Braille Institute in Orange County, California, where she developed educational materials tailored to individual syllabuses or discussions and facilitated peer support groups to help others deal with the loss of sight and related issues.
She has been a guest speaker and educator at numerous functions for the Braille Institute as well as the California College of Physical Arts.
Rebecca lives in Northern California with her husband Don and her guide dog DOT, where she tries to make it a rule to look at the shovel, not the pile.
